How to get a temp assignment, when you are feeling average

It is inevitable we are always going to have someone ahead of us, or someone who is doing better than us in a certain respect. This doesn’t mean you should get demoralised about job searching, and it doesn’t mean you can’t stand out.

Here are some simple things you can do to make prospective employers notice you and get the job that you want;

Use who you know

 If you have friends, family, or colleagues that can help you, then use them! Form connections by reaching out and letting people know you are looking for a new job, or that you are interested in new work. Stay in touch with the people who have offered assistance. Let your contacts know what you are up to and the progress you have made. It might feel awkward, but if you don’t put yourself out there, then you won’t gain anything!

Use what you know

You may not be an expert or an authority in a particular area, but you’ll find not many people are! More often than not, employers are looking for people with real tangible and transferrable skills, not high level expertise. Highlight areas you may be able to excel in, such as familiarity with computer software. With Temp Market you can complete skills tests, so they can see up front you are able to do the job. Be Confident

No one is going to trust you with the job if you can’t even trust yourself! Remember you have a unique set of values, beliefs, experiences and skills that no one else may have. Think of yourself as a brand you need to sell to employers. Understand that you need to work on a brand and stick with it, and sell it.

Effort

This is the biggest thing between you and your goals. You can put as minimal effort in as possible to your job search, but that will probably result in minimal success. There is lots of competition in the job market, with lots of people putting in mediocre effort. If you can be one of those people that goes the extra mile, does the skills tests, does the video introduction, then you are opening yourself up to a world of opportunity that many people just aren’t willing to put in the effort to do.
